Best planted in clusters, Sempervivum throw new offsets each spring. They're known as Hens and Chicks as they look like a hen surrounded by her chicks. These 'chicks' can be easily separated and replanted.

Sunlight brings out bright colors in Sempervivums. The above pictures were taken in spring and that is when the colors show their best. If you order these in winter, you will not likely see the full colors as shown. Sempervivums change colors in wintertime and do not look the same as they do in the spring/summer. This is mother nature. Cooler temps bring out different colors in Sempervivums.

Indoors, Hens and Chicks should be grown in a sunny window and watered when dry. These plugs vary in size from the size of a nickel to a quarter. You will receive a variety of sizes, as some plugs are a smaller variety than others. Some of the cobweb type of varieties tend to be a smaller plants, as that is how they grow.
